Hello: My name is Karl and I make most members of the "Whackado Wing" of the Democrat Party dribble on themselves when I enter into a room. Heh!
The inspiration for six Ian Fleming novels and the hit TV series, Alias, Plame's 35-year career as a super-duper top secret agent was what legends were made of. From her base of operations, Codename: Cubicle, Agent Plame spearheaded such major CIA operations as Project Fetch Director Woolsey a Cup Of Coffee and Operation Who Stole a Box of Staples from the Supply Room? In 1996, she singlehandedly thwarted a major terrorist attack by remaining motionless at her desk for several months while slowly tripling the size of her ass. Along with John Deutch and Aldrich Ames, Valerie Plame is one of the few CIA spooks who has earned the admiration and respect of progressives everywhere.
While some repugs are quick to shrug her off as a "pencil pusher" or a "cubicly monkey", the frontline of the War on Terror ran right across Agent Plame's desk. When she pushed her seemingly nondescript pencil, nations burned. Empires rose and fell at the flick of her super-duper top secret wrist. So when the Agency ordered her to investigate reports that Saddam Hussein had tried to obtain yellowcake uranium from Niger, she devised a cunning plan to assign the most unqualified, inexperienced boob with zero credentials to the task. It would be the exact opposite of what the Nigerites expected.
After hours of painstaking research, she whittled the list of candidates down to two potentials. Big Bird from Sesame Street refused the assignment, so she placed a call to Mr. Joseph Wilson, Codename: Shmoopsie, - former Ambassador to Lower Slobovia and, by pure coincidence, her husband.
Shmoopsie was incredibly busy helping democrats defeat Bush in the 2004 election, but when Agent Plame, Codename: Mumsy-Wumsy explained the mission to him, he turned his yacht around and headed for Nigeria at once. It was a daunting task, requiring long hours in a third world country with shitty golf courses, but he would do it for Mumsy-Wumsy. He would do it for the country he loved. And he would do it for America, too.
After spending several grueling hours sipping dreadful martinis at the Lagos Hilton, Shmoopsie made two very shocking discoveries:
1. For a nation full of Black people, it was next to impossible to get a decent shoe shine in Nigeria, and
2. Nigerian leaders vehemently denied selling yellow cake, or any other form of tasty dessert to Saddam Hussein.
Alas, Bush's entire reason for invading Iraq was a farce.
Upon reading Shmoopsie's super-duper top secret CIA report, Codename: An Article in the New York Times, Agent Plame proceeded to the office of Director George Tenet, carrying a cup of coffee to confuse snipers, ward off ninjas, and cloak her from Soviet spy satellites. Director Tenet was not only unimpressed by the Jennifer Garner pouty-face Agent Plame had spent months perfecting, but complained that she put too much cream in the coffee. Devastated, she returned to her Base of Operations, but vowed to continue working behind the scenes to expose Bush for the lying liar he is.
When she found out days later that Robert Novak had blown her cover, she immediately suspected that Rove was behind it. Aside from her husband, the Agency, the barista at the Langley Starbuck's, the entire cast of Cats, most of Washington D.C., and that guy who printed the "Kiss Me, I'm Married to a CIA Operative" T-shirt she gave to Shmoopsie for their anniversary, Rove was the only person who knew of her super-duper top secret identity. Obviously, this was his revenge for Shmoopsie's completely impartial criticism of Bush's illegal and immoral war in Iraq. Sleazy tactics indeed, but business as usual for the Bush junta. They ruined Wen Ho Lee, and now they had ruined her.
In the twelve months since Rove destroyed Agent Plame's career, Mumsy-Wumsy and Shmoopsie have suffered an endless nightmare of TV appearances, speaking engagments, magazine spreads, and lucrative book deals. Karl "The NARCitect" Rove's immediate termination will go a long way to repay these modern day Rosenbergs for the unjustice done to them, but it will never repair the damage they've inflicted on the War on Terror, a federal jobs program soon to be helmed by President Hillary Clinton. What Rove did amounts to treason, and not the noble kind of treason where you sell out your country or side with the enemy. Nothing short of his prosecution and incarceration will get us back on the Roadmap to Winning the Peace.
Dennis
As I write this, about the only thing that is going good is that the power is still on. Hurricane Dennis missed us here in the
The roof of my boat house is no more. Most of it is resting on the boat itself, with the rest pretty evenly distributed among my neighbors docks and yards.. This is going to be a major issue when the winds stop as to how to get those portions of the roof off the boat and what remains of the dock. About 65 feet of my seawall has busted out and a good portion of the land against the wall is now slipping into the bay. The seawall is about three feet thick (concrete) and one can only imagine what the hydrostatic pressure must have been to bust out that big a section of the wall. I have a new and exciting leak in the front of the house that seems to be from water getting into the siding of the house and not from the roof. I can only imagine what it’s going to be like to try and find where this water is coming from. But coming it is, by the bucketful. Some of these outer bands are just wind but others are wind and rain with rainfall rates in the 3 to 4 inches per hour rate. Would you believe that these bands are moving at around 50 mph?
And the Hurricane missed us??????
Oops—sorry just had to stop for a moment as a giant piece of stucco that covers the ceiling in the hallway just landed on the floor. And the bad news continues as there are now three different locations where water is dripping off the ceiling. It is now raining like a mutha!
I gotta tell you that this is worst than any of the four storms we ducked last year. Much worse.
Want some more good news? Because this is Sunday I have to get Debbie in to the
I’ll be soliciting donations later.
You probably don't remember me but we met at a party a number of years ago. I still recall the tone of your voice and the way you looked me up and down before pronouncing my outfit "quaint". I could tell that you were very important (and busy) by the way that you laughed and turned back to Belgium and Canada after you said it. Still you made quite the impression on me.
That is why when I learned of your recent disappointments, I felt that I had to write you. Losing the 2012 Olympics to London after all of that effort must have been devastating. I know that you and England have a long rivalry. This had to really sting. A lot. This is the third bid in a row that you have lost right?
Then there is the matter of Lance Armstrong and his utter domination of the Tour de France. How a testicularly challenged American heathen can continue to trounce the athletic flower of French manhood is beyond me.
And as if your collective luck wasn't bad enough, along comes that virulent strain of snail-gonorrhea that has decimated escargot production. Have the God's no mercy?
To add insult to injury, David Hasselhof's new reality show was not picked up for a new... oh wait, that's Germany... Sorry.
And all of your disappointments are not recent, I know. How long has it been since Jerry Lewis has made a movie? Losing a screen legend like this, before his time, must cause irreparable damage to an already shaky national psyche.
On the international front, that damn cowboy George Bush went right ahead and invaded Iraq even though you forbade it! What arrogance!
French women are shaving and bathing more. Berets are losing ground to the baseball hat. Where does it all end? I cannot rightly say.
All I can offer is this advice: Keep your nose head up and soldier on. When I say "soldier on" I don't mean like you have done during actual wars. I meant... maybe "soldier on" is a poor phrase to use. How about "keep truckin' "? Yes, that's it. Keep truckin' until we meet again.
Sincerely,
Fate
P.S. Keep f---ing with me and see what happens next.
No one actually asked me to post here, but then again no one said I couldn't, so prepare to be Garofolized, rethuglicans!
What a surprise - the Chimp Executive Oaficer can't get his oversized head (or his undersized brain) around why it is that Muslims, who we all know are usually a peace-loving people, would actually lash out at the flocks of lilly-white Aryan sheep in the US and UK. How's this for an explanation: We're attacking them! What else can they do in the face of this regime's oppressive policies?
The whole f**king world hates us because the neocons pulling the strings of the BushCo hegemonistration decided that a good response to the events of 9/11 would be to bomb the shit out of any country that has substantial oil reserves, resists converting to their perverted fundamentalist version of Christianity, or pissed off one of their family members in the past. So they just pissed away all the goodwill and sympathy this country enjoyed on September 12, 2001. Way to go, tards.
All right, so maybe the purple-fingered zombies who voted in the rigged election in Iraq say they like us, but what else are they going to say? How honest would you be if some right-wing BushCo mouthpiece from Fox News shoved an electronic phallic symbol in your face, screaming questions at you while a trigger-happy American jarhead was standing just a few feet away with a loaded weapon?
And what about President Lame-Brain's domestic policies? Well, let's see - we have the so-called "Patriot" Act (talk about an Orwellian name - do you even know Orwell's work? Have you even seen 1984?), freedom of speech is now verboten. How else do you explain the the fact that Air America is having trouble getting sponsors?
Who said "Dissent is the highest form of patriotism"? Was it Orwell? I don't remember hearing that line, but it sounds like something right out of one of his screenplays. But here in Jesusland, dissent isn't allowed, so we're basically being deprived of our right to express our patriotism. And no, I'm not talking about phony, flag-waving "Oh this is the greatest country on earth" patriotism, I'm talking about hard-core dissent. I'm talking about letting people know just how much this country really sucks. Now that's patriotic.
So why can't you people see the solution? We just wait till we're attacked again - and you know we will be, the way we're pissing people off. But this time we don't do anything in retaliation. We just sit back and enjoy the goodwill. Then the real patriots launch a massive, coordinated show of patriotism by sticking it to the crooks in the White House as loudly and as often as possible. No holds barred, man - the stolen election, the ties to corporate criminals, the inescapable similarities to Hitler - we let it all hang out.
Think about it: Every country in the world will be standing in solidarity with us, one of the most patriotic - truly patriotic - and peaceful countries in the entire world.
With ideas like this, I should be the freaking president. Dream on, wingnuts.

When Sandra Day O’Connor announced her intention to retire from the Supreme Court, Washingtonians gathered with one thought: the circus has come to town.
Reporters quickly assured viewers this "titanic battle" that is guaranteed to be knock-down, drag-out, wall-to-wall ugly. They didn’t wonder: why does this always happen with Republican nominations, but not Democratic ones? In 1993, President Clinton nominated Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who was calmly approved by a vote of 96 to 3. In 1994, Clinton nominated Stephen Breyer, who was confirmed by a vote of 87 to 9. By contrast, all hell broke loose with Robert Bork and Clarence Thomas, with 58 senators against the one, and 48 votes against the other. The same pattern occurs with Attorney General nominees: 42 votes against John Ashcroft, 36 against Alberto Gonzales, and zero against Janet Reno. Why?
It’s simple. Republicans have been willing to grant Democratic presidents their right to select nominees of their choice, while Democrats have used an explicitly ideological standard since the 1987 trashing of Robert Bork: if you’re conservative, you’re disqualified – period.
These Democrats are emboldened because on high-profile, non-electoral fights like this, liberal bias flies fast and furious in the newsrooms. A classic example can be found in the work product of staunchly liberal National Public Radio reporter Nina Totenberg, who has tried to ruin two conservative Supreme Court bids.
In 1987, she took a bitter ex-girlfriend’s diary and ruined Douglas Ginsburg’s nomination by forcing him to admit marijuana use at Harvard in the 1960s and 1970s, after which a parade of politicians from Gingrich to Gore admitted the same, with no career damage. (The Didn’t Inhale President came later.) In 1991, Totenberg took a bitter former employee (and according to some, wanna-be girlfriend) named Anita Hill and forced a new set of hearings around Hill’s unsubstantiated tales of sexual harassment by Thomas. But when Paula Jones, Kathleen Willey, and Juanita Broaddrick came forward with their (far more serious) charges against Bill Clinton, Totenberg’s compassion was nowhere to be found.
While partisans on both sides gear up for battle, everyone should acknowledge that the "mainstream" media are going to echo the sentiments of any liberal special interest group against whoever is nominated by President Bush. Even on the one relatively peaceful Republican nomination in recent times – Papa Bush’s awful 1990 selection of David Souter, now a solid liberal on the court – liberals in the press sounded now-comical alarms. Dan Rather panicked with Senator Paul Simon: "Is there any doubt in your mind that [Souter's] views pretty well parallel those of John Sununu's, which means he's anti-abortion or anti-women's rights, whichever way you want to put it?"
The most perverse form of media slant emerges when "reporters" warn that conservatives have a "litmus test" for nominees, implying liberals have never voted strictly on an ideological basis. Those massive Republican majorities for Ginsberg and Breyer (and Reno) ought to rebut the idea that Republican senators are "litmus test" voters, but the media are a Ted Kennedy echo chamber – boorish and predictable – on this issue.
In the first hours after O’Connor’s retirement, CNN political analyst Bill Schneider was already implying only the right used a litmus test. In a story using a graphic titled "A Litmus Test," Schneider recounted how Republicans want no more David Souters: "Conservatives were outraged when he turned out to support abortion rights. Many liberals denounce the idea that a nominee should have to pass a litmus test on the abortion issue." Then came Ted Kennedy, supposed litmus-test hater, who said with a straight face (and no CNN rebuttal): "I don't set up a litmus test for any particular nominees. I have voted for judges which have been pro-life." Unmentioned by Schneider: Kennedy voted not only against Thomas, Ashcroft, Gonzales, and so on, but also against supposedly "anti-women’s rights" Souter. (He was confirmed 90 to 9.)
In 1994, the Media Research Center’s Nexis research of the terms "litmus test" with "Supreme Court" in the three news magazines, as well as the Washington Post and New York Times, was eye-opening: 111 uses from 1987-1992, but only ten uses in Clinton’s time up to the Breyer confirmation process. Most of the disparity came from the newspapers: 54 to 3 in the Post, 44 to 5 in the Times. Translation: During the Reagan-Bush years, there was a defined ideological standard to be met by nominees. In the Clinton era, there was apparently no ideology to consider.
In 1994, Nina Totenberg sat with anchor Ken Bode during live coverage of hearings on Stephen Breyer the "centrist," with Bode complaining Reagan and Papa Bush emptied "the law schools of very conservative Republicans." Totenberg replied "the Clinton administration, at least so far, has not done that at all."
I bet you even Ted Kennedy laughed at that one.
Guess when this happened
Okay, contestants, when did this news story break?
COLUMBUS, Ohio (CNN) -- The Bush administration's plan to launch a military strike on Iraq ran into plenty of flak in the American heartland Wednesday. At a town meeting held in St. John Arena at Ohio State University and aired exclusively on CNN, Secretary of State Colin Powell, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and National Security Adviser Condoleeza Rice encountered a noisy, opinionated crowd and considerable opposition to another war with Iraq.
Powell was drowned out at one point by a group chanting, "One, two, three, four, we don't want your racist war," as he tried to explain U.S. policy to the audience of 6,000.
The heckling became so intense at one point that Powell interrupted CNN's Judy Woodruff and said, "Could you tell those people I'll be happy to talk to them when this is over. I'd like to make my point."
Similar outbursts greeted Rumsfeld and Rice as they laid out again a U.S. position that is familiar to those who have followed the building crisis in the media.
They said the United States would prefer to see a peaceful resolution and hopes that U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan will make significant progress when he visits with Iraqi officials this weekend.
But if Iraqi President Saddam Hussein doesn't allow U.N. arms inspectors to have unrestricted access to all weapons sites in Iraq, they reaffirmed that a U.S.-led coalition will respond with military force.
How many times....?'
While those opposing a "racist war" were a tiny, if vocal, minority, there were many others in the audience who agreed with a veteran who asked if "we're going to do it half-assed the way we did before?"
A caller from Oklahoma echoed that sentiment, asking, "How many times are we going to send our children and our children's children to fight Saddam Hussein?"
"We've spent seven years containing him at no loss to U.S. lives," Rumsfeld said, adding that an attack would reduce the threat of "chemical and biological weapons that will pose a threat to your children and grandchildren for the future."
Another caller noted that the U.S. encouraged an uprising in southern Iraq but did not help those who responded, and that they were subsequently "slaughtered" by Iraqi troops."Our policy has been to support opposition groups, and it continues to be our policy," Rumsfeld began, but he was drowned out by chants of "Bull----! Bull----!"
Another member of the audience screamed at the chanters, "Shut up!" One young man asked Powell why the United States is willing to attack Iraq while ignoring actions by other countries. Powell responded, "No one has done what Saddam Hussein has done, or is thinking of doing. He is producing weapons of mass destruction, and he is qualitatively and quantitatively different from other dictators."Powell scolds questioner
As shouts erupted from the audience, he added, "I'm really surprised that people feel they need to defend the rights of Saddam Hussein." "You're not answering my question, Mr. Powell," the questioner said. Powell said, "I suggest, sir, that you study carefully what American foreign policy is. Every one of the violations has been pointed out on what is not right, and I would be happy to spend 50 minutes with you after the forum to explain it."
Rice told the audience that should military action be necessary, "the cardinal principle of the planning of this operation has been to seek to minimize civilian casualties." Obviously, that's not possible (to eliminate them altogether), especially when you're dealing with someone who uses people as human shields. But we have no intention of trying to wreak havoc on the Iraqi people."
One heckler who made his way to a microphone asked how Powell, Rumsfeld and Rice could sleep at night, knowing that innocent Iraqis would be killed and injured by any military strike."We will not send messages to Saddam Hussein with the blood of the Iraqi people," he said. "If you want to deal with Saddam, deal with Saddam, not the Iraqi people."
'What democracy is all about'
"What we are doing," replied Powell, "is so that you all can sleep at night. I am very proud of what we are doing. We are the greatest nation in the world ..." He stopped as the audience rose and applauded.
"... and what we are doing," he resumed, "is being the indispensable nation, willing to make the world safe for our children and grandchildren, and for nations who follow the rules."
A caller from Germany who identified himself as a member of the U.S. armed forces, told the panel that he agreed with what they were trying to do. "And if lives need to be lost," he said, "let it start with mine." Although surprised by the opposition they encountered, the officials adjusted to the noise level and the probing questions.
"This is a tremendous example of what democracy is all about," Rumsfeld said. "People expressing opposition ... would not be allowed to do this in a number of countries, including Iraq."
A State Department spokesman played down the tone of the meeting, and said Powell, Rice and Rumsfeld "enjoyed it. They came away feeling that the overwhelming majority of the audience was very supportive of the goals of the administration."
If you guessed 2002, you're wrong. In fact, this whole exercise is a cheat.
The story is from Feb 18, 1998. And the cast of characters was not Powell, Rice and Rumsfeld. It was Madeleine Albright, Sandy "Scissorhands" Berger and William Cohen.
Fascinating how evil and dangerous Saddam Hussein was during the Clinton presidency. As Albright said:
No one has done what Saddam Hussein has done, or is thinking of doing. He is producing weapons of mass destruction, and he is qualitatively and quantitatively different from other dictators.
But today's historical revisionists say Saddam was no threat, and that Bush lied (Downing Street memo, blah blah blah).
Hypocrisy is always ugly.
Fearful of coming off like a sore loser, yet he finding himself unable to tolerate Bush's littany of lies, he tookpen in hand to criticize Bush's poorly planned war. A Vietnam war hero thrice wounded in combat, he courageously expressed his disatisfaction with a war he himself supported before he was against it, and that he boldly sort of supports now.
The New York Times was, of course, hesitant to risk their reputation of objectivity by publishing a partisan hit piece. But after going over Kerry's article with a fine-toothed comb and triple-checking all the facts, they threw caution to the wind and printed the article as a service to the American People.
Ever the optimist, Kerry predicted a gloomy outcome for the War in Iraq, unless Bush followed some key advice. Gleaned from previous Bush speeches and policy already in effect, Kerry's bold new ideas are perhaps our best chance to end the Quagmire in Iraq:
1. Bush must announce that the U.S. will not remain in Iraq permanently.
2. The Iraqis must be encouraged to form their own government and hold elections.
3. The Iraqis must be trained to defend themselves.
4. Saddam must be captured and held for trial.
Most importantly, a plan must be set for the withdrawal of our troops and presented to democrats in Congress or, cutting out the middle man, given directly to Al Zarqawi so he can get a jump on the killing fields when we depart.
Oh, America! How wrong you were to send such a brilliant mind back to Boston! What fools you were to toss this bright beacon of hope away like a handful of someone else's war medals! I weep for you, America, for you've missed the John Kerry swift boat of love!
It has gotten to the point where I am just not able to answer all the emails about Deb. And so, I will begin the “CancerBlogging” entries to give all of you the updates rather than try to keep re-doing and adding to the mass mailing list.
For some background for those of you who read my tripe and don’t know what in the hell I’m yakking about here is the quick and dirty briefing.
Several months ago, Deb (my wife), was diagnosed with breast cancer. Having gone through all of the examinations, CAT scans-PET-scans-MRI’s, Ultrasonics, X-Rays, blood work, Muga-scan, etc. the final diagnosis for Deb was IDC (inductive ductal carcinoma) with some additional metastasis in the thoracic region of her chest and spine.
Deb had a dual port surgically placed in her chest for the administration of Chemotherapy, about three weeks ago. On Monday June 13th, Deb began her first cycle of Chemo. She is getting three different drug combinations which take approximately 6 hours for the entire process. It begins with hydration and anti-nausea medicine through an IV followed by the Chemo drugs. This is followed up the next day with IV hydration which takes another 3 hours to administer as they throw in some anti-nausea medicine too.
Over the past 11 days she has had the normal and customary effects of an aggressive Chemo regimen. Beginning this Tuesday she has had to go in every day for a shot of Nuperine (sp) which is a drug that will help the production of white blood cells as her white count fell far below normal. This too is considered a normal side effect of the Chemo. And for the record, she still has all her hair at the moment.
All things considered (Pardon me NPR) Deb has done pretty god-damned good this first cycle. Her attitude is great and she has not suffered any real debilitating circumstances from this first cycle. She goes back for a second round on July 5th. After this second round we should have some indication of whether the Chemo is doing its job. Deb had some markers placed on the tumors and we are hoping that after the second round there will be either some softening or shrinking.
I will be taking my laptop to the
Lastly—For all you ladies, PTA members, friends and relatives of Debbie who will be reading this Blog to get the Debbie Updates please be advised that the right wing ranting and tasteless humor I write on this blog was never intended for your eyes or sensibilities. I suggest that you only read the Debbie Updates and skip the rest, unless of course you are as sick, demented, and libertarian as I am. What and how much of this tripe I write that you read will only be between you and your God as no one will know what you read and what you skip over.
That assumes of course that there is indeed a God.
Once again, Karl Rove has tied the Democrats in knots. With their own rope.
Karl Rove's statement costs the GOP no political capital. He's not head of any party, he's not running for anything. No one can hang anything on him in an election.
But in one fell swoop, he has simultaneously stuck a thumb in the Democratic Party's eyes, and as the fools run screaming from the hive, demanding an apology, every stupid thing Reid, Rangel, Durbin, Byrd, Dean, McKinney, Donna Brazile (Who once called Colin Powell an "Uncle Tom," and all the other lefty bloviators ever said percolates right back up into the headlines, as the media tries to compare what Karl Rove said (Every word of which is demonstrably true. Susan Sontag alone validates Karl Rove's point) to those boneheaded things each of the Democrats said.
And now people are digging into the archives and finding that what Rove said is true - liberals were calling for "Restraint and moderation" from day one. They can't deny it. It's in their own rhetoric.
What's more, Karl Rove is genuinely speaking for conservatives, here. The Republican Party's not splitting over his words, the way the Democratic bird-brains all tried to snipe at Dean, for example.
The Democrats are so predictably incompetent, they couldn't find their ass with two hands and a flashlight.
Rove is, as usual, three steps ahead of the Dems. The Dems would be better off just writing him off as a political hack, not bothering with demands for apologies or resignations, which bring their own legion mistakes back to haunt them, saying they pity him, and be done with it.
Instead they play right into GOP hands.
They would never be able to defeat the Mujahedeen. They can't even defeat the GOP.
And these guys want to take over responsibility to run a war?
They couldn't run the frigging shuttle bus to the PX!
Despite the promise of resigned acquiescence in the spirit of compromise, repugs in congress still insist on backing Bush's idiotic nominees. Now the Shrub is threatening to force a recess appointment down everyone's gullet unless Congress hands a highly unqualified thug an ambassadorship to the United Nations.
A UN ambassador should be kind, gentle, and opinionated only in a curmudgeonly grandfather sort of way. He or she should have an unintimidating mustache and refrain from speaking bluntly, brusquely, or in any fashion that might make Sen. Voinovich blubber like Michael Landon during sweeps week. In other words, a U.N. ambassador must be everything that John Bolton is not.
However, there is one man who meets all of the qualifications for the position and then some. I'm talking, of course, about deposed Iraqi leader, Saddam "Cuddles" Hussein. While Bully Bolton is a bullying bully who bullies his subordinates, Saddam jokes with and gives fatherly advice to his captors. Bolton holds grudges against those who don't march lockstep to the beat of his drum, but Saddam has no hard feelings for the chimp who bombed his palaces in the incorrect order and then chased him down a spider hole. Bolton belittles the very organization he seeks to work for, yet Saddam has a long record of cooperation with the UN, and would sooner eat a bowl of Fruit Loops than defy France.
Call me a radical if you must. Tell me I'm ahead of my time. But if a UN appointment can in some small way repay Papa Saddam for Bush's destruction of his country, murder of his gentle sons, and theft of his oil, then dammit we owe him that much!
Oprah Winfrey is a women enjoying a uniquely American success story.
Uniquely. American.
There is no society in the history of civilization where Oprah's unbelievable success is possible. Where someone with no talent other than sucking up to celebrities, producing awful movies, and making absolutely everything under the sun all about her can become the most wealthy and powerful woman in the world.
And what does she do? What does she say? She goes to Africa AFRICA (!) and proclaims, "I wish I was born here" and proudly states she's a Zulu.
1. Has she ever proudly stated she's an American?
2. Has she ever said she was glad to be born in America?
3. If I called her a Zulu I'd be up on hate crime charges.
4. If she really wishes she were born in Africa, we can do the the next best thing: We'll snip her clitoris, make her a slave, starve her, plague her with AIDS, and then machete her to death in a genocidal rampage.
Because if you were born in The Motherland, you ungrateful *controlling myself here*, you wouldn't be Oprah, you'd be lucky to be a statistic.
And don't worry, after you're gone and nobody notices -- we'll be sure to get some other ungrateful liberals together to blame America for what's happening an ocean away. We'll be sure to blame the country who provides the most aid and food. We'll be sure to blame everybody but, you know, the actual people who live in Africa, for the atrocities of genocide, starvation, and a depraved indifference to AIDS and slavery.
Oh, and anyone nostalgic for those "Owning a Darkie" days need only move to Africa. Because it's only in "The Motherland" the abomination of slavery's still tolerated. Because "The Motherland" is being ravaged by it's own "Mothers" and "Fathers" -- but of course, that's Americas fault.
And Oprah, don't think all of us have forgotten how you whored your way to fame. Some of us still remember that you are the Queen Of Trash TV. No, it wasn't that long ago you were Mrs. Jerry Springer with your own parade of trailer trash and neo-Nazis. And it was only after you spawned the legion of imitators who continue to degrade our culture that you were able to rise above.
You wish you were born in Africa? Well, gee Oprah, that makes two of us.
Gregory Despres is shown in this image from television. On April 25, 2005, Despres arrived at the U.S.-Canadian border crossing at Calais, Maine, carrying chain saw stained with what appeared to be blood, a homemade sword, a hatchet, a knife, and brass knuckles.U.S. customs agents confiscated the weapons, fingerprinted Despres, and then let him into the United States.
Despres ... was arrested in Mattapoisett, Mass. and is being held in a jail there, charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

Putting aside, for the moment, was there anything ... anything at all ... about this guy which might have cause you to think twice about letting him into the country?the blood-stained chain saw, the sword, the hatchet, the knife and the brass knuckles,
DNC Chairman Howard Dean has come under fire recently for comments he made regarding the employment propensities of Republican voters. Dean was quoted as saying that "a lot of (Republicans) never made an honest living in their lives." A new study has shown that Dean may in fact be correct.
"We took a look at the types of jobs that Republicans hold and were frankly surprised," stated pollster Lemuel Fontaneaux. "Bankers, doctors, laborers even a few teachers and social workers. They covered the whole gamut. Finding registered Democrats who were employed was a bit more difficult. However, among the ones we contacted the most commonly held jobs were conscientious objector, political activist and coffee shop clerk. Interestingly, almost without exception every one of them aspired to become a college professor."
Fontaneaux went on to say that for the purpose of this particular study, the criteria for a "dishonest living" included the following:
In a related story, a whopping 68% of Republicans reported that Dean is their number one choice as the 2008 Democratic Presidential candidate. Michael Moore remains second and Al Gore and Gary Busey tied for third.
A United States Marine was sentenced today to 20 years hard labor for looking sideways at the Koran.
The offense occurred at the Guantanamo Detention Center where Muslim prisoners have filed numerous complaints against guards who they say routinely desecrate the Islamic holy book. Some of the desecrations include:
1. Wearing dirty white gloves while handling the Koran
2. Not being deferential enough towards the holy book. One inmate, Muhammed Ahkbar complained that Marine guards routinely failed to “bow low and scrape their heads against the floor” while in the presence of the Koran. “It is only right that the infidel dogs show homage to Allah in this manner.” Ahkbar said.
3. Guards not being ready for pop quizzes on the Koran by inmates.
4. Guards not washing their hands after urinating and then handling the Koran. This led to a rumor in the facility that a guard had actually peed on the holy book. But after a 6 month investigation costing taxpayers more than $1 million, no proof of the allegation could be found.
In addition to Koran desecration, inmates complain of torture and mistreatment. “My bed is lumpy.” said Saad Rafjani. “I prefer the Serta Extra Firm queen size but these defilers before Allah gave me the twin size.”
One inmate complained about the food. “The lamb is overcooked, the Khoubz tastes like the inside of my AK-47, and you can see right through the water!”
Pentagon spokesman Lawrence DiRita claims that the inmates are comfortable and well fed.
Just wanted you to know that this is not a post.
Seriously, it's not.
If this was a post I would be writing something in this space.
I mean, sure, I'm writing now, but it's not really writing per se.
What the hell does per se mean, anyway? Wait here, I'm going to look it up.
Still here? Hold on, almost done.

That wasn't much help. It would probably help if I knew what etymology meant. Maybe I need to learn Latin. Not much chance of that.
Anyway, this isn't a post.As the flag-waving jingoist masses were busily drooling over the murderous troops last weekend, a REAL hero slithered out from the shadows of anonymity into the bright and lucrative glow of stardom. No bones about it, W. Mark Felt is the personification of courage. Any moron can pick up a gun and shoot some poor Iraqi kid in the ass, but it takes real guts to leak government information to the media under an alias, deny it for 30 years, and then blurt out in a fit of senile dementia, "I am Deep Throat! Where are my pants? I like cheese."
The Repugs are, of course, in full spin mode. The unveiling of the legendary Deep Throat draws more scrutiny to the current crook in office, and astute comparisons are already being drawn between Nixon and the Shrub. But instead of accepting the fact that Bush and Nixon are two heads on the same conservative dragon, the repugs are attacking the messenger. They're calling a true American patriot everything from a "rat fink" to a "slutty, trailer park ho'" who concocted the entire story when Nixon spurned his sexual advances. Even Deep Throat's much deserved beatification by the New York Times won't stem the tide of right-wing hate. I wouldn't be surprised if Felt wound up dead in a park of an apparent "suicide", Hunter S. Thompson style. The GOP simply won't forgive the man who brought down their beloved Richard Nixon, ended the Vietnam War, and proved to the whole world that republicans are too damned corrupt to be allowed to govern.
The red state troglodytes can keep worshipping uniformed fascists for all I care, but progressives know that the real American heroes are the whistleblowers - at least, those who blow the whistle on Republicans. And like Richard Clarke, David Brock, Ethel and Julius Rosenburg, and other great whistleblowers before them, the self-righteous tweet of Mr. Felt's mighty whistle will echo through history.
What a lousy week for Republican lawmakers who still can't act like the majority party.
With the Bolton filibuster in place, what we are currently being treated to is 42 Democrats saying, in effect, "all that 62 million votes for President Bush and 55 Republican Senators means nothing: unless we approve, nothing gets done." Our leftwing friends say this is "checks and balances", but what they mean is "stopping the GOP from using its political victory". As it stands now, we've managed to get one of ten filibustered judges approved, after a four year wait and, meanwhile, during a time of war when diplomacy moves at a swift pace, the United States lacks an ambassador at the United Nations. All of this because the Democrats believe that they know better than the majority and, dammit, the majority will just have to learn its place until it wises up and puts the Democrats back into majority power.
Keep in mind that if during this past week it was President Hillary Clinton sending the nomination of Jesse Jackson to be Chief Justice of the United States over to a Senate headed up by Majority Leader Reid, then the "nuclear option" would have happened, and rated a page 18 blurb in the MSM....The only principle the Democrats are acting upon is the bizarre and un-American principle that they are to be in control regardless of the outcome of elections. Our masters have spoken, and in the matter of judges found seven GOP fools to bend the knee.
This, you see, is how the Democrats view the American people; stupid children who must be prevented from doing themselves harm. If they were to go along with their crushing defeat last November 2nd, then we would be going about passing laws which would only harm our best interests...heck, if we started acting like we won the election, we might even reform Social Security! Can you imagine a world in which the mass of the American people have complete control over their own financial assets? It is too horrific to contemplate and so the Democrats wisely thwart us in our desires. Thank God for the Democrats...without them I might start sticking pennies into electrical outlets.
All kidding aside, the Democrats are doing the political things which are done in the run-up to civil war. In a democratic republic, the first requirement is that the losing side quietly accept their defeat and only work towards changing the outcome at the next election. We cannot have a functioning democratic government if a minority can stop all action when they lose. What we must do, as Republicans and in defense of bedrock American political principle, is somehow break this Democratic logjam on the levers of power. We have to force them to back down.
All of us hoped after 9/11 that as far as the war went, Americans would show a united face to the enemy. Additionally, when President Bush came to town and said he'd be happy to sit down with Democrats and work out a mutually satisfactory solution to all pending problems, we figured that the Democrats would grasp their chance to get half a loaf. It didn't work out that way.
Quietly and only on the fringe at first, the war was opposed before the fires died down at WTC; within a year of 9/11, the Democrats were out on the political warpath saying that the President was failing at the war and that, at any rate, there wasn't really a war and the President was just using 9/11 for political advantage. The Democrats took the President's pledge to be a uniter and not a divider and when the President indicated that this didn't mean a 100% surrender of political principle, the Democrats painted the President as a monster of tyranny, riding roughshod over the Democrats. These two things indicated for all to see that truth and justice mean nothing to Democrats...only getting and holding power matters to them, and if they can't get it, they'll prevent those who hold it from exercising it.
The Democrats want war to the knife; so be it. They started this, we will finish it.
A new "deal," created by 14 senators, allows for the Democrats' continued use of filibusters in "extraordinary circumstances," and pledges Republican senators not to vote in favor of a rules change. Defining the term "extraordinary circumstances" is to be left to individual senators -- meaning that Democrats lost nothing by their obstructionism, and Republicans lost everything. Yes, a few of President Bush's judicial nominees will reach the Senate floor: Priscilla Owen (who has been waiting in line for over four years), William Pryor (more than two years), and Janice Rogers Brown (22 months) will all be confirmed. But many more will not, and the Republicans just threw away their only remaining weapon.
So in this political game of chicken, it is the Democrats who emerge victorious. It is the Republicans who cover themselves in shame. Here are the big winners and losers in this, the most important political battle in recent memory.
WINNERS:
Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) -- Reid played the Republicans like fish here. He breached Senate protocol -- and plain decency -- by implying that FBI files on judicial nominee Henry Saad contained damning material. He called President Bush a "loser" and obstructed for months on end. Now, Reid is smirking for the cameras, and Democratic National Committee Chair Howard Dean is chuckling that the deal was "a huge loss for the right wing" and for the president.
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) -- McCain's "maverick" credentials are intact. The media love him, and he certainly loves the media more than either his base or his principles. McCain's side-dealing highlights him as a rival to President Bush and the real leader of the Senate.
Sen. George Allen (R-Va.) -- With McCain's backstabbing and Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist's weak-kneed schoolgirl routine, Allen (who immediately condemned the deal) now emerges as the Republican senator with the best shot at the 2008 presidential nomination.
Janice Rogers Brown -- By explicitly allowing Brown onto the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, Democrats have painted themselves into a corner if she's nominated for the Supreme Court. It will be difficult to cite "extraordinary circumstances" to filibuster her once she's already received an up-or-down vote.
LOSERS:
President Bush -- He's relegated to choosing second-tier candidates for his judicial nominations and fuming about judicial activism. So much for "spending political capital."
Sen. Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) -- Majority leader? What majority leader? McCain made Frist look foolish and probably prevented Frist's ascent to the Republican presidential nomination in 2008. Frist should have pushed the nuclear option sooner and whipped his senators into line. Now he's left an emergency message with Fox's "Nanny 911."
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) -- McCain better enjoy his glory now because he will never win a Republican presidential primary. Ever. From campaign finance reform to judicial nominees, from flirting with John Kerry to criticizing President Bush, McCain has amply demonstrated that he is unfit to run on a national ticket with an "R" next to his name.
The Republican Party -- Never has a majority party proved to be so spineless. Republicans, lest we forget, constitute 55 out of 100 senators and have the power to do what they please. Instead, they capitulated. It is now crystal clear that unless Republicans own almost 60 seats, rules will not be changed; unless Republicans own almost 70, cloture will never be invoked on a major issue. If that doesn't discourage the Republican base, nothing will.
The American people -- Hope everyone out there likes Sandra Day O'Connor, Anthony Kennedy and David Souter, because whoever replaces Justices Rehnquist, Stevens and Ginsburg will likely look more like those three faux-Constitutionalists than like Antonin Scalia or Clarence Thomas. You can thank McCain and Co. and the gutless Republican leadership as America is force-fed pure European liberalism through the unchecked hand of judicial review.
Let’s see if we can get a consensus here. All those who agree with me, raise hands:
I am getting just the teensiest, tiniest, merest, hint of the scent of a whiff of being really, completely, and thoroughly SICK AND TIRED of the Western press pouncing on the Outrage! in the Arab world about something the
The latest – protesting photos of Saddam Hussein in his tighty whities on the front page of two Rupert Murdock newspapers – is just about enough, shukrun very much.
Saddam Hussein is a butcher. He is in the same – thankfully very small – club with Stalin, Hitler, and Pol Pot.
Saddam in his underwear is no different than Saddam in a bathing suit. Given how fit he looks, he doesn’t seem to be suffering very much from his incarceration.
If anything, the “Arab street” should be incensed because Saddam’s treatment has not been harsh enough. How tender should the prison stay of a man be who ordered the deaths of some 300,000 of his countrymen? Maybe we should throw him back into his spider hole.
Saddam Hussein in his drawers? Who cares?
This has little to do with Saddam but much to do with the world-wide effort to discredit anything and everything American, not a little of which comes from within the

We’ve torn up the IOUs because (a) we didn’t do those things to keep score in the first place, and (b) we know we’d never be re-paid even if we did.
Saddam in his U-trou? Give me a break.
What about the continued hostage-taking of unarmed reporters and aid workers? Some of them have been ransomed. Some of them have been killed. None of them has been the object of Outrage!
You want to be Outraged! about something? How about the billions – BILLIONS – of dollars that Saddam and his band of thugs stole from the people of

Hello? Can I interest you in even a modest amount of fury, rage or wrath? No? I’ll settle for just a smidgen of polite indignation.
Saddam in his smalls? Pul-eeze.
What about the footage of people having their heads chopped off – beginning with Daniel Pearl a reporter for the Wall Street Journal who had done nothing at all to deserve being held captive, much less butchered. Where was even the most diffident suggestion that it was unpleasant let alone barbaric? Outrage! Yeah, right.
The list goes on and on. Fallujah. Remember the four contractors who, escorting a food convoy, were ambushed, burned, dismembered and then hung from a bridge? No Outrage! then, either.
Saddam in his BVDs. Yuck. You couldn’t turn on a television over the weekend without seeing the photo with a studio host staring into the camera sadly reporting the damage it was doing to American credibility overseas. Every 17 seconds.
So, let’s just call this what it is: A sham. A fake. A lie. A victory for the “
Hello, my name is Fabrizio Quattrocchi. I was captured by Muslim holy warriors and tortured before cameras, just for their sport. In the end, they set aside of any respect for international law common, human decency or even the restraint of their own religious doctrine and beheaded me. I shouldn’t have expected any special treatment as this is a common act that they perform even among their own people. However, you won’t see the video of my beheading because I died like a man rather than the sniveling coward they wanted me to be.
I just want you all to know that I find all Muslims who decry to horrors of “George Bush and abu-ghraib” and now this desecration of the Koran to be a bit, shall we say “shallow” in light of the fact that the same “abu-ghraib” that you decry under Bush was a charnel house under Saddam, and yet you said nothing since it was a fellow Muslim doing the killing Oh, and I tell you, the International Red Cross coming out for concern over “civilian deaths in iraq” now that Saddam is gone is rich, real rich. Where was all the concern when the Kurds were being gassed? Where was all the concern for the marsh arabs then, eh? Where’s all the indignity when the supposedly holy kingdom of Saudi Arabia works so hard at killing and subjugating so many of the worlds Muslims. See any Christians in Arabia? No, Golly why is that? Oh that’s right, because it’s a death sentence. Any Muslim converts to Christianity? Oh that’s right, Death penalty. I ask you, from the grave, what’s more of a desecration? An act of defiance in a prison by a Muslim prisoner flushing his own Koran down the toilet, or the subjugation of your most holy sites by a dictatorship of thugs and corrupt princes. You tell me, I’m ready to listen, frankly I’ve got all of eternity to wait for your answer.
Have you people counted up the Muslim bodies in your mass graves created by Muslim warlords? Not just in Iraq, but in Iran, Syria, Saudi Arabia? You’re worried about words on paper? Look I know God wrote the Koran, but its not like it’s the only copy that went down the porcelain fountain there in Cuba. If the US wanted to desecrate a holy site, dontcha think they could just launch one of those nuclear missiles at Mecca? That would get your attention pretty quick now wouldn’t it? So what’s stopping the yanks? Oh, it’s that common decency that those “infidels” have in their religion. As someone who had his head chopped off for sport by your :”holy Warriors” , I think its something you might want to check into.
Desecration? Don’t talk to be about desecration. You people eat desecration for breakfast on your corn flakes. You use your mosques and holy sites as munitions dumps, you use then as sniper nests. So what’s a little water on a copy of your holy text?
And just to be clear, The story isnt true. So, isnt there some proviso in the Kraon for bearing false witness? Well, given your track record there probably is againt fellow Muslims but not against "infidels". That must be the catch-22 of the Koran.
Oh, and by the way, just so you are completely aware of what I think of you and your murderous islamofascist culture, you can all kiss my ass.
Oh, and NEWSWEEK, you can cancel my subscription. Thanks to you and your indiscretions in the media, you made people like me easy and valuable targets. I’m dead, not that you care because before I died I didn’t denounce George Bush, so to you, I guess I deserved it.
How’s that for a desecration?
What’s that smell? Mmmm, smells like a whitewash!
The lawyer for the committee investigating the U.N. Oil-for-Food program has written a letter to the world body asking it to instruct a former investigator who resigned from the commission not to comply with two congressional subpoenas regarding the probe, sources told FOX News.
Paul Volcker, the man picked by U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan to lead the investigation, said on Friday the integrity of the probe into the Oil-for-Food program is at stake and lives may be in jeopardy if details of the investigation are leaked.
The letter to the U.N. and Volcker’s public statements are in reaction to recent congressional efforts to subpoena a former senior investigator on the Independent Inquiry Committee who thinks the panel has been too soft on Annan in its investigation.
The former investigator, Robert Parton, has also provided Congress with documents from the probe. In his remarks on Friday, Volcker asked Congress to return those records, which may contain information potentially harmful to Annan, sources told FOX News.
Rep. Henry J. Hyde, R-Ill., however, refused to return the documents. Hyde, chairman of the House International Relations Committee, said he appreciated the gravity of Volcker’s concerns, but that his committee is obligated to continue its own investigation.
Okay, let’s break it down. Kofi, knowing his kleptocracy is riven with corruption, appoints Volcker. Volcker releases a report which appears, on the surface, to be critical of Kofi. Then Robert Parton, one of Volcker’s investigators, resigns, claiming that Volcker is protecting Kofi. Parton gives to Congress a lot of evidence to support his claim. Congress, following up on the information, subpoenas Parton to testify. And now Volcker is asking Kofi to order Parton to ignore the subpoena.
Kofi appoints Volcker, and now Volcker wants Kofi to order Parton not to testify to avoid embarrassing Kofi.
I don’t smell a whitewash, I smell bullshit.
A day after Senator Uriah Reid (D-Nev) brands the president a "loser" and then apologizes, a week after Senator Ken Salazar (D-Colo) labels Focus on the Family as the anti-Christ and then apologizes, and a month after Senator Robert Byrd (D-WVA) brands the Senate GOP as Hitler's heirs, Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY) appeals to President Bush to bring moderation to the Republican side of the debate on the filibusters.
Now that is rich. Wildly amusing and ineffective, but rich.
As if the Democrats couldn't look more foolish than they already have this session, now Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid has taken to calling George Bush names while the President represents the US at World War II memorials around Europe. Reid called Bush a "loser", in what has to be the oddest case of projection so far this year:
In the course of a discussion on filibusters and Senate rules, Washington's top Democrat gave the 60 juniors a lesson in partisan politics, particularly about the commander in chief. "The man's father is a wonderful human being," Reid said in response to a question about President Bush's policies. "I think this guy is a loser.
"I think President Bush is doing a bad job," he added to a handful of chuckles.
He's a loser, eh? Let's take stock:
A. He beat an incumbent VP for a popular President after two terms of perceived peace and prosperity.
B. He marshaled his own political capital on mid-term elections when supposedly his presence was a liability, and won a majority in the Senate and several house seats.
C. He won his next presidential election despite managing a divisive war and the open hostility of the national news media. He survived a major smear effort by one of the country's biggest news organizations late in the campaign. Not only did he win re-election himself, but he further extended his majorities in both houses of Congress.
Harry Reid wishes he could "lose" like George Bush. He's about to get outfought by a reluctant Bill Frist and watch as Bush's judicial nominees finally get confirmed to the appellate court and the Supreme Court. The real losers are the people who picked Reid and Nancy Pelosi to run the Democratic legislative caucuses.
The courtroom was silent as the military judge read the list of charges against Pvt. Lynndie England. Among them:
1. Five counts of leading naked men around by a leash without an official Dominatrix license issued by the mayor of San Francisco,
2. Three counts of piling naked men on top of each other outside the confines of an accredited Ivy League fraternity,
3. One count of repeatedly saying "Nee" until Iraqi prisoners brought her a shrubbery,
and the most heinous crime of all, an act of such inhuman brutality that it makes the Rape of Nan King look like a Sunday picnic:
4. Eleven counts of genital mocking.
To those who think that genital mocking is a victimless crime, think again. Nationwide, over 300,000 white males have their genitals mocked each year. The numbers are significantly higher among enlisted men, who have teensy, peanut-sized genitalia, for which they compensate by carrying around big guns and saying, "OOoh, look me at me, I'm so macho!"
To Muslim males, having one's genitals mocked by a woman is considered a fate worse than having one's head slowly sawed off while other men laugh and sing over your bloodcurdling screams. That's exactly why this crime was so insidious, and why that palimpsest piece of flatulovaporous effluvium must never be allowed to see the light of day again.
Statistics show that 9 out of 10 gential mockers will mock genitals again if released into the general population. Serial mockers such as England have been known to mock hundreds of genitals before finally being apprehended. Unless anti-genital mocking hate crime legislation is enacted immediately, we may never again return to the bygone days when young men could walk the streets at night with their flies open and their tackle out.
Unfortunately, the neocon judge in this case refused to accept England's guilty plea, citing that some of the photographic evidence was taken at a democrat party fundraiser at Martha's Vineyard last weekend. The judge's decision sends a dangerous message to genital mockers that the mocking of genitalia will not only be tolerated, but encouraged as a matter of military policy.
